Or, what is an introvert?

You may ask House Crazy Sarah: what makes you an introvert? What exactly is an introvert?

An introvert is one who lives a lot inside their head. They can have several colorful lifetimes going on in their head, all at once, and this makes them borderline schizophrenic. It’s not that they don’t like interaction with real people or can’t act extroverted at times, it’s that being observant and thinking a lot is their natural state of being. Their mind gets so bogged down with thought that it can be difficult for them to talk out loud. Hence, they are usually thought of as quiet, shy, and awkward, perhaps even slow.

Introverts try to follow along with the action of everyday life and attempt to engage in conversations but they are usually two or three beats behind because they’ve gone off on some tangent or multiple tangents inside their head. Often times, this leads to socially awkward timing.

An example of water-cooler conversation with an introvert:

Non-introvert: OMG can you believe Drogon melted down the Iron Throne for scrap, and Bran Stark, a.k.a. the Three-Eyed Raven is the new king?!?

Other non-introvert: I know, I thought for sure that the Daenerys or Jon Snow would win the throne.

Introvert: Do you think Ross and Rachel are still together?

Another example is this shy lad whose mind-blip was caught on camera:

It should come as no surprise that a lot of introverts are writers, like House Crazy Sarah. They cringe at being the center of attention but will put on their performing monkey hat if required. But this is merely an act, my friends. They would much rather be at home in their jammies putting together a ship-in-a-bottle, reading Jane Austin, or tapping out their thoughts on an anonymous blog.

They thrive from alone time and this can make it difficult for them to have relationships. For example, House Crazy Sarah’s boyfriend thinks it’s peculiar how she always want to spend every Sunday cleaning her house rather than watching hand-egg (football) with him. He doesn’t understand that this quiet, alone time is actually fun for her.

Being around other introverts really isn’t a viable option either because then the two of you are so hyper-aware of your awkward social functioning that you become paralyzed with self-awareness.

An introvert feels most secure alone with themselves, inside themselves, protected by themselves. Kind of like a turtle. And that’s why House Crazy Sarah likes turtles.
