It appears rather stoic and formal from its street facade:

But inside, it is a phenomenal restoration of a colonial era home in the San Sebastian historic center of Merida in Yucatan, Mexico.

Its name is El Encanto – how sweet is that?

Enchanted indeed with original wall murals, hand-made doors, 18-foot ceilings and pasta tile floors. What the heck are pasta tiles?

Pasta tiles are: made in molds into which bits of colored cement paste are poured and arranged. A solid colored cement is poured as backing and the tiles are hydraulically pressed and left on their edges to dry in the sun. (source)

Not sure what that has to do with pasta, but it’s a novel concept.

Below you can glimpse the iron staircase which leads to an en-suite bedroom with full bath and art studio.

Every room is a visual delight…

Fun fact: Merida and Yucatan enjoy the reputation of being the safest major city and the safest state in Mexico. It is a popular relocation destination with American and Canadian ex-pats.
