Welcome to the Colonel George Gillespie Home in Limestone, Tennessee.

Dating back to the 1780’s, this home is unique because it was one of the first stone houses built in Tennessee and is subsequently listed in the National Registry of Historic Houses.

Col. George Gillespie House

George Gillespie II came to the American Colonies in 1744, at the age of 14, with a colony of Scots-Irish from Northern Ireland. He fought for North Carolina in the Revolutionary War, and hence became known as Col. George Gillespie.

He hired Seth Smith, a Quaker stone mason from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to build his home in Limestone, Tennessee.

The old stone house was meticulously restored by its current owners.
