Yes indeed, floral wallpaper has made a comeback!
All patterns of wallpaper, really, but floral is fast becoming the top contender.
Over her lifetime, House Crazy Sarah has looked at many, many houses. On an average day, she probably looks at more home interiors than most realtors.
So when she started noticing a trend in recent years of floral wallpaper popping up, she took notice.
Bold, bright, beautiful floral prints have been appearing in both new and old homes.
As have more soft, muted, traditional floral patterns.
And they are all lovely and pleasing in their own way.
Let’s have some fun with wallpaper and do a little style rewind to the decades House Crazy Sarah has lived through…
1970’s
House Crazy Sarah, having been born in the 1970’s, was first introduced to the garish orange/yellow/brown abstract colors on the kitchen wall, and she was not a huge fan.

Aren’t she and her siblings cute?  The wallpaper… not so much.

1980’s

1990’s
Somewhere in the 1990’s we stripped all rooms of wallpaper and went strictly paint only. Those who didn’t, had their houses considered “dated”.
Wallpaper was most definitely OUT in the 1990’s!
Paint-only reigned for a couple of decades until folks got stuck in this depressing adolescent grey stage where every room in the house is 50 shades of grey.

CAN WE BE DONE WITH THE GREY PAINT TREND ALREADY!?!
House Crazy Sarah is soooooooo sick of morose grey walls! She wants some color and design back in homes! She is tired of the sleek, bland, “neutral” look that house flippers just love to fall back on. It is so blah and unimaginative.
It’s time to set the clock back and look to the past for some floral designs that get the blood flowing again!
Ahhh….. much better!
House Crazy Sarah finds floral wallpaper both soothing and stimulating in an artistic and creative way.
The human brain loves pattern. It’s how we make sense of the world. The repetition of shape, color and texture helps us organize the stimuli coming in through our eyes.
Perhaps that is the appeal of wallpaper.
And while too many competing patterns can be overwhelming and distracting; when done right, wallpaper can be enchanting and transformative.
When applied to a space with intentional elegance, floral wallpaper is irresistible!
It’s true that House Crazy Sarah went most of her life detesting wallpaper. But there has been a seismic shift within her in recent years. She is now a papering mega-fan! She may even try it in her own house one of these days.
