For Sale: Three Vintage Cottages in Venice California

Venice, California cottages

Venice, California was once a quaint canal-laced town with cottages from the early part of the 20th century. Unfortunately, the quaintness of the place has been overtaken with aggressive residential development and modern new builds are now squished in the place of the old cottages which were unceremoniously razed, or “scraped” as they call it in the business.

This breaks House Crazy Sarah’s tender heart. But, lo, there are still a few historic gems left amidst the sterile new architecture.

House Crazy Sarah has found three of them that are currently for sale.

Let’s have a look!

Cottage # 1

412 Howland Canal, Venice, CA

Cottage #1 is a small traditional craftsman in original conditional. It was built in 1922.

It is small at 968 square feet with only  2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, but it has a $1,899,900 price tag.

Why? Because it occupies a prime spot right on the canal for which Venice is known.

It also has the original unpainted woodwork.

And a remodeled, albeit tiny, galley kitchen.

Look at the clawfoot tub in the bathroom!

Cottage # 2

116 Breeze Ave, Venice, CA

This cottage is the oldest of the three but it is probably in the best condition. Still, it is not on a canal so the price is more affordable than the other two at $1,775,000.

Built in 1910, this vintage home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in 1,388 square feet.

Isn’t it stunning?

Dutch door into the kitchen!

This home has a small finished loft upstairs with an adjoining private balcony…

Cottage # 3

583 Grand Blvd, Venice, CA

This cottage is right in between the square footage of the first two and not on a canal, but it has character and style through the roof and a price tag to match!

Built in 1923, this 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom 1,400 square foot home is priced at $2,395,000.

Built-in book shelves!!

This home has some weird angles – the floor plan is kinda wonky – but it is just so dang charming and unique!

It even has an art studio:

Look at the cozy upstairs bedroom:

It’s like a little nest!

There’s also a larger bedroom:

These old cottages are expensive, but you can’t beat the character of them!

You also can’t beat the seaside location of Venice, California…

Which cottage is your favorite?
