Valley House: The New Jersey Home Of Gangster Al Capone

There’s something about a vintage 1920’s home hidden away in the dark cover of New Jersey woods that just screams gangster hideaway.

This estate in Berlin, NJ. was once a getaway home for famed American gangster Al Capone

It was recently listed for sale and sold for $1.3 Million.

Al Capone had the right idea, because not only is this place set back from the road and hidden in thick trees, it is funky and fun as heck!

According to the listing, the infamous bootlegger moved here in 1927 to escape the Chicago heat – and not the weather kind of heat.

This bad boy bootlegger had good taste in homes, if not a little gaudy in the decor department.

The secluded 37 acre property is set back from the highway and even has waterfront views.

Have a look inside. You’re gonna love it – gangsta or not!

The home has a total of 6,500 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.

Some billiards and rum?

This place was made for entertaining!

This house not one, but TWO bars! More on the other one in a bit.

When Capone moved in, the house had recently been expanded by its owner, B. George DiLuzio.

Here is the living room:

It’s probably the calmest, least fussy room in the house.

Not sure what the purpose of this room is (below)… one can only speculate.

And look…. a built-in safe!

No mobster home would be complete without one. What goodies hid out behind that red door?

Now for the most unusual master bedroom…

There’s something a bit dizzying about it.

Another bedroom:

And a third bedroom that is actually quite lovely:

One of the six bathrooms…

Is that a flask hanging there by the shower?

Look at the amazing attic space:

That would be a fun room to decorate. Too bad it’s just being used for storage.

Let’s go back outside…

There is a wonderful courtyard area, complete with a wishing well.

But perhaps the best part of this property is the pool area…

Remember that second bar? Here it is in the pool cabana!

How about that? Can you picture Al Capone sitting there nursing a Templeton Rye? That was reportedly his signature drink.

What a gorgeous, luxurious home!

Oh, one more thing: have a look at the SEVEN car garage!

It must have really been a downer when Al Capone landed in prison just a few short years after renting this place.
