Another fabulous church conversion!

The Ferry Hall Chapel was built in 1888 in Lake Forest, Illinois – a posh, wooded enclave just north of Chicago along the western shore of Lake Michigan.

The Ferry Hall Chapel is notable because it was designed by architect Henry Ives Cobb.

This church/home is located just one block from Lake Michigan in a private, treed setting with landscaped rose gardens, and a bluestone patio with a fountain.

After Ferry Hall Chapel was no longer used as a place of worship, the building was converted into a private residence in 1980.

Last purchased in 2010, many improvements were made both to update and to preserve the historic integrity of the home.

Have a look inside…

This Gothic-style building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This home now features a great room with soaring ceilings, arched windows and doorways, and original leaded glass windows.

The focal point of this room is a fireplace with an antique, carved wood mantle imported from France.

Another neat feature is the lead-framed glass windows with custom UV-coated covers making them more energy efficient, but preserving their historic beauty.

The home has 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in a total of 2,859 square feet.

The chapel-turned-home is complete with a large dining area and a fully equipped kitchen.

Beyond the grand great room, there is a cozy den…

The former chapel has two stories with 2 master bedroom suites – one on the first floor.

Going up the staircase, one has a lofty view…

And check out the second floor master suite:

How about that rose medallion window – isn’t it divine?

As are all those built-in bookshelves and cabinets!

The second floor features an office as well as a smaller bedroom.

An upper floor bathroom is a charming use of space with that gothic window nook.

Outside, there is a quaint patio sitting area and manicured gardens.

The listing states:

This home maintains a unique and independent role within the Mayflower Park Condominium Association.

So what is its role? Just a stately centerpiece?

In any case, the former church-turned-home is listed for sale for $1,599,000!
