A Carriage House Cottage

Look at this 1897 carriage house that has been converted to a 4 bedroom residence.

Located in Petaluma, California, this is the original carriage house for the Fairbanks Mansion – a Sonoma County landmark.

Somewhere along the way, the carriage house was sub-divided from the main estate and turned into a house in its own right.

The carriage house is now a 3,100 square foot 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home. And guess what? It’s for sale!

But it does not come cheap at an asking price of $1,499,000.  Yikes! Better be nice inside. Let’s have a look…

The interior is modernized but also preserves much of the original fir and redwood woodwork including the planked walls and ceilings in the living room.

It makes for a darker room but the light, large patterned flooring offsets the darkness.

Look at the kitchen:

The very definition of ‘light and airy’!

And look at the original sliding barn doors!

The airiness continues in the dining area…

The fourth bedroom could be used as a den, office, or studio.

The master bedroom on the main floor is also accessible through a sliding barn door.

The master has French doors opening into the shady backyard.

Upstairs, there are two more light-filled bedrooms with dormer windows…

Look at the adorable little corner windows!

House Crazy Sarah could live here in a heartbeat! Too bad it is WAY out of her price range.  🙁
