House Crazy Sarah is always on the lookout for historic buildings in quaint small towns.
Fryeburg, Maine (pop. 3,369) is one such town.
On Main Street Fryeburg, you will find this 1805 former inn that is now being used as a single-family residence with four additional rental units.
This 10-bedroom, 7-bathroom 6,230 square foot home is currently for sale for $799,000.
The home’s website claims the property was once an official stop on the Underground Railroad.
When it was a functioning inn, it was known as Ye Olde Inn.
Pictured above and below, is the rental unit section of the property.
We’ll take a peek in the rental units, but first, have a look in the main house.
Inside, the 1805 home has classic features and the original layout.
Look at those wide plank floors!
Looks like the original brick in the living room fireplace.
The parlor has been creatively repurposed as a game/arcade room.
It’s hard to see in the photos but there is a custom arcade game called Ye Olde Inn.
There is also a cinema-inspired TV room.
The kitchen…
Well, it’s big and it has nice windows.
The ceiling configuration is an unfortunate mystery.
The formal dining room is also a bit of a let-down…
But on the second floor, if you overlook the worn blue carpet, the bedrooms are actually quite lovely.
There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms on the second floor of the main house.
The bedrooms still feel very much like they are rooms in a historic inn.
On the north side of the main house is an enclosed porch – perfect for spending time on those old-fashioned rocking chairs.
You may need your mittens in the winter months – this is Maine after all – but what a darling space to idyl away on summer days.
The 4 Rental Units
The back part of the inn now features four rental units, comprised of two two-bedroom apartments, one one-bedroom apartment, and a studio. All units are occupied, and generate an annual income exceeding $100,000.
The units are quite lovely and well-kept.
This is a great property for someone who wants a large living space that can also generate passive income.
Ye Olde Inn is a beauty in the winter, but is she pretty in the summer?
Of course she is!
