One of the most popular posts recently on this blog is a period perfect Lustron home in Indiana.
Well one of House Crazy Sarah’s readers unearthed another one just like it in Ohio!
These things are so fascinating!
They were built almost entirely with enameled steel by the Lustron Corporation to house WW2 veterans during the post-war housing boom.
Not a lot of them exist anymore but there are a few surviving ones in the mid-west of the United States.
This 1949 model is exactly 1000 square feet and is the perfect little mid-century 2 bed, 1 bath package!
Currently used as a vacation rental, the owner has it decorated in period perfect retro attire.
When you stay here, you can pretend you are a 1950’s housewife! (Although if you are anything like House Crazy Sarah, you are more of a feral housewife, than a domestic one!) 😉
Have a look at the fully intact original kitchen:
The reader who sent House Crazy Sarah some of these photos stayed around Christmastime and said she had a great time taking in all the kitschy memorabilia.
In the master bedroom, there is a cool ‘phone seat’ with a matching turquoise rotary dial phone:
Below are photos of the second bedroom:
The bathroom also appears to have all the original fixtures:
Since all the enameled steel wall panels are magnetic, the owner says you can make designs on the walls with magnets – provided on site for your amusement!
Thanks to Lenka for telling me about this fun Lustron in Ohio!

The pine cabinets in this article are not original to the Lustron.
I had never heard of this type of material in housing. Interesting as always!
The “phone seat” is called a gossip bench.
Love it! Thanks Jeffrey 🙂
