House Crazy Sarah is a sucker for vintage door knobs. She’s been known to pause and stare at them for minutes at a time. People ask what she is doing and she squawks: “Can you not SEE this exquisite piece of artwork?!?”
But House Crazy Sarah, It’s just a door knob.
JUST a door knob – pfft!
It’s a crying shame that not all people appreciate the intricate beauty of these utilitarian art forms.
If you are reading this blog, then you probably have an affinity – or at least a healthy respect – for the craftsmanship of our metalsmithing forebears.
So let’s take a little pause in our busy lives to gaze upon these beautiful jewels of days gone by…
The detailed metal work is impressive, but how about adding a little bling?
Glass knobs can be so gorgeous the way the light dances on them!
So pretty!
Then there are the plain round knobs, interesting in their own right:
House Crazy Sarah even found a couple of knobs with words engraved on them:
The one above appears to be from a church.
This one is obviously from an old school:
House Crazy Sarah has a friend who bought an old house from afar – sight unseen, and by the time she got there, the sellers had stripped and taken all the original door knobs and hardware! Old house blasphemy!
Antique door knobs don’t have to be fancy to turn House Crazy Sarah’s head.
The rustic, weathered ones are just as intriguing…
House Crazy Sarah just loves these mesmerizing pieces of the past that still remain!
