Another fantastic re-imagining of an old public building!
This Prairie-style masterpiece was built in 1913 as the River Forest Women’s Club in River Forest, Illinois.
Today, it has been carefully transformed into a stunning single-family home.
It was actually designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s chief draftsman, William Drummond, who was also the husband of one of the women’s club members.
The restoration work was done in the early 2000s. The club’s original 1st level theater and stage are now a large dining, living and family area.
So dramatic… imagine the parties you could have here!
You can read more about the history of the club and building here.
The home was on the market for the better part of a decade but most recently sold in the spring of 2020 to a family with young kids.
These listing photos are from it being recently listed again in June of 2021. As of mid-August 2021, the listing was inactive so no word on if it sold or not.
In any case, it’s great to see inside the former club and to see how recent owners have decorated it.
This unique home was even featured on HGTV’s show You Live In What?
It’s just such a stunning space, from top to bottom.
How cool would it be to live here as a child?
The converted club has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in over 3,200 square feet.
The lower level has a huge open recreation/play space:
The lower level also features a large professional-grade kitchen:
The preserved elements of this place are outstanding.
There is walkout access from the garden level to the sunken entertaining patio and huge backyard.
Here’s hoping that the future has great things in store for this special place!
