The bright yellow storefront building on Brushfield Street is located in what used to be Henry VIII’s artillery ground, where soldiers once practiced archery and musketry during the 16th century.

For the first time in over two decades, the shop and adjoining 3 bedroom apartment with private rear roof terrace is up for sale!

Technically, it’s not really for sale.  Rather, it is a leasehold property with a price of £2,300,000. But don’t worry, the lease length has another 978 years remaining, according to the listing.

So if you bought it, you’d be good for a few years.

Thought to have been built in the 1770’s, the shop & flat retain much of the original character. This is an incredibly rare opportunity to live and work in one of London’s most popular historic markets.

Some historical context from the listing:

From 1889 to 1892 the shop was occupied by its most famous resident, a Jewish Hungarian immigrant called Annie Gold. Her shop sign sits above the door on Brushfield Street to this day, advertising her trade as milliner under the moniker A. Gold.

Since Annie’s occupation of the shop, the space and upstairs apartment has been used as a jeweller and diamond cutter, a furrier, a bootmaker and as temporary lodgings. It was a functioning fruit and vegetable warehouse right up until the relocation of the original fruit and vegetable market to Leyton in 1991. The Spitalfields Trust took it over and saved the space from demolition.

The shop part occupies the entire ground floor and in the rear, there is an office area with a fireplace containing a cast-iron Victorian stove.

The interior features tongue and groove paneling and original hardwood floors.
