Who doesn’t love a little old red schoolhouse that has been converted into a home?
The schoolhouse is located in Springwater, New York, near the famous Finger Lakes region.
It’s not currently listed for sale but it was as recently as May of 2023 for the very palatable price of $129,900.
One source explains that there was an original schoolhouse on the property that dated back to the mid-1800s. But after a fire destroyed that building, this one was built in the 1930s.
The antique schoolhouse has been converted into somewhat of a living space with loads of original schoolhouse charm.
What was essentially a one-room schoolhouse, is now a great room with a fireplace, original chalkboard, sleeping area, and kitchen area.
Much of the warm, unpainted wood has remained intact.
The compact kitchen has some great old cabinets.
From the angle in the photo below, you can see the sleeping area tucked in a corner, and also the more private loft area where another bed or two could be placed.
Below, is a wood-burning stove to keep cozy during the brisk northeastern winters.
Looking down from the loft:
Left over from its school days – the original coat closet with coat hooks for the students!
It’s a very nostalgic place for us old-school lovers.
Newer French doors at the far end of the great room open to a private deck overlooking the 14.2 acres of land that come with the building.
This place is in excellent condition and would make a fun primary residence for a single person, a small family, or a neat weekend getaway.
It is so wonderful when old buildings like these are preserved and repurposed.
It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia and coziness!
