There’s something about a shiny front door decked out with pretty greenery and vintage hardware that makes House Crazy Sarah do a double take.
British street wanderer and photographer Bella Foxwell has made a career out of photographing the charming front doors she comes across in her foot travels around London.
Doors that combine history, color, character and even a bit of nature get their due on Bella’s popular Instagram page The Doors of London.
Bella says she likes the symbolism of doors, plus the fact that the people who reside behind those doors put so much love and energy into making them spiffy.
In an interview Bella explained, “Over time I’ve come to learn what engages people and what doesn’t, and unsurprisingly the brighter, more colorful doors framed by foliage tend to perform better.”
House Crazy Sarah likes that: “perform better”.
Indeed these old beauties are putting on a sort of performance.
The front door is the part of the house that is like the smile on a person.
If you are dazzled by these doors, imagine how sweet the homes’ interiors are!
But by and large, we – the public – will never get to see the insides of these homes.
We have to rely on their public facing presentations to dazzle and intrigue us.
And thankfully, there is a creative soul with a fine eye for these front doors who has recorded them for perpetuity.
Bravo to our kindred soul sister Bella Foxwell for capturing these enchanting doors of London.
