British painter Lucy Almey Bird creates the most whimsical images of all of House Crazy Sarah’s favorite things: private interior spaces, solitary women doing what they love, beloved pets, antiques, books, and comfy old chairs.
Lucy’s subject matter centers around snapshots of domestic scenes of quiet, solitary blissfulness within or near the home.
Almost all of her paintings feature a single woman with her beloved pets, surrounded by the feminine hygge markings of a cozy home: books, tea, glowing fires, oven baking, and fresh flowers or potted plants.
From a technical perspective, Lucy Almey Bird’s paintings have a distinctly skewed visual perspective, almost a fish-eye lens quality about them. This makes the images even more magical and fairytale-esque!

This dear artist Lucy Almey Bird has so perfectly captured the peaceful, cozy, nesting qualities of home, we are gently transported to a simpler time of peaceful, long-ago nostalgia.
Lucy Almey Bird grew up in rural Somerset in Southwest England and she continues to live and paint there today. Here is the most extraordinary thing about this talented artist: she is completely self-taught!
She was encouraged to paint and draw from an early age by her parents who took her on frequent trips to galleries and museums.
Lucy raised three daughters, who are now grown and they provide much of her inspiration.
The artist uses acrylics on canvas board to create these dazzling images.
While Lucy’s paintings mostly feature solitary women, she does occasionally include other human companions as well.
The painting below reminds House Crazy Sarah of laying in bed reading in her last house with the cozy peach-painted bedroom, 4-poster wood frame bed, and homemade quilt.
Gazing upon these images, all is right in the world.
