House Crazy Sarah has featured a Chautauqua house before in New York state. In fact, she even stumbled across an historic Chautauqua community in her adopted state of Colorado!
The Chautauqua movement was an adult education and social movement in the United States, popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Basically, Chautauquas were fancy summer camps for wealthy adults.
This particular house is located in none other than Chautauqua, NY – the birthplace of the Chautauqua movement.
And it’s for sale!
This 6 bedrooms, 2 bathroom vacation home is listed for $629,000.
The house is 2,072 square feet on a small 3,999 square foot lot. But what it lacks in property, it makes up for in expansive porches.
A signature feature of Chautauqua homes is the summer outdoor living spaces.
The stacked, wraparound porches are quite literally additional living rooms.
Let’s have a look inside this campy cottage…
Filled with vintage details, this adorable place takes us back to a simpler time.
Can you envision a large family gathering here? Someday maybe…
This king-sized cottage dates back to 1881. Apart from the modern electronics, it looks much the same as it would have 100 years ago.
It has so many sweet little sitting nooks.
Let’s have a look at some of the bedrooms…
Most of the bedrooms have access out to the porches/balconies.
House Crazy Sarah is in love with the antique décor!
