Look at this sweet old stone cottage!
Located in Granby, Connecticut, this dwelling was built in 1932 by a wealthy Hartford businessman for use as a servants’ quarters.
The domestic staff stayed here while the wealthy family took up residence in a larger home nearby.
This rural, hilly area of Granby was a favorite of the Hartford elite for a place to “summer” in the early 20th Century.
Despite being the former servants’ quarters, this place is loaded with charm and pizazz.
Windy Top Cottage is currently used as an Airbnb so you can rent this darling place.
Owners Dawn and Ken have refurbished the interior with vintage “pumpkin pine” floors, warm paint, and plush furnishings throughout.
The cottage has just over 1000 sq. ft. of living space with a quaint stone fireplace in the main living area.
Notably, there is NO KITCHEN in Windy Top Cottage – just a small coffee bar area with a vintage icebox. There’s not even a kitchen sink or microwave, so guests have to enjoy eating at local establishments, or, picnicking.
The lack of a kitchen is most likely because the servants would migrate to the larger house to work and eat in the kitchen there.
Not having a big fancy kitchen makes this place all the more humble and cozy.
It’s kind of reminiscent of Rosehill Cottage from the movie The Holiday.
Let’s have a look upstairs!
There are two spacious second-floor bedrooms with a definite English Country House feel.
All the furnishings in the cottage are sourced from owner Dawn’s painted furniture business: A Girl With A Paintbrush.
The delicate furniture and gorgeous textiles look so perfect with the exposed stone walls.
Windy Top Cottage has one teeny-tiny bathroom…
It features the original bath fixtures from the 1930s!
Every corner of this cottage is filled with whimsy & delight.
Outside, Windy Top Cottage is as picturesque as they come with window boxes overflowing with fragrant flowers and a lush green lawn covered by the canopy of mature shade trees.
The exterior patio out the rear door has LED lanterns and a fire pit for summer campfires.
